Questions About Stump Removal

What's the difference between stump removal and stump grinding?
Grinding chips the stump down below ground level with a machine and leaves the roots to break down naturally — it's faster, cleaner, and easier on your yard. Full removal digs out the whole root ball, which leaves a big hole and disturbs more of the area. For most yards, grinding is all you need. Tell us what you're planning for the spot and we'll recommend the right one.
How deep do you grind a stump?
We grind several inches below ground level — deep enough to plant grass, lay sod, or build over the spot. If you're putting in new landscaping or paving and need it deeper, just let us know up front and we'll grind to suit the plan.
Will the stump grow back if I grind it?
Grinding the stump below grade takes out the growing point, so the tree won't come back from it. Some species can still send up a few suckers from leftover roots for a while — if that happens, they're easy to knock down, and they fade out as the roots rot. If your tree is a heavy sprouter, mention it when you call and we'll talk through it.
Do old stumps really attract termites and pests?
